I picked 10 questions in the style of the Life in the UK Test, all based on the official handbook, so you can see where you stand. Try to answer each one before you open the explanation. The real test has 24 questions, 45 minutes and a 75% pass mark.

10 practice questions

  1. 1. In which year was Magna Carta agreed?

  2. 2. What did the Habeas Corpus Act of 1679 guarantee?

  3. 3. Which battle took place in 1066?

  4. 4. Who is the patron saint of Scotland?

  5. 5. On which date is St David's Day, the national day of Wales?

  6. 6. What is the national flower of Wales?

  7. 7. What is the capital city of Northern Ireland?

  8. 8. Who was Prime Minister for most of the Second World War?

  9. 9. Who wrote Romeo and Juliet?

  10. 10. On which date is Remembrance Day?

How to use practice questions well

  • Read the explanation even when you get the answer right: the real test asks the same fact in different ways.
  • Write down the dates and names you get wrong and review them the next day.
  • When you score 75% or more in practice, move on to full 24-question mock tests with the 45-minute timer.
